My excitement about the beads I had made during Saturday’s torch session was soon squashed when I cracked the kiln Sunday morning and pulled out some butt ugly beads. :[ I had used totally different combinations of colours in most of the beads I had made that day and I should have known better not to make a whole batch of beads with new colour combinations without first testing their reactions to each other. *slaps self wildly around the head with a cat o’ nine wet noodles* and writes note to self….. ~~ Self!… Yooooou IDIOT!!!~~ Here are three beads that I was able to salvage from the rest of the muddy looking bunch. And *gasp* five beads didn’t make the cut and are heading for the bin as soon as I pull them from the mandrels. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!! Thankfully it is very very rare that this happens because most days when I am torchin’ my brain is also engaged in the activity…. not last Saturday though it seems. Have you ever seen the Alfred Hitchcock movie….The Birds? I saw it when I was very young without my parents knowledge (they would never have let me watch it). I had nightmares for years and recently I got a flashback of that movie when I turned around and saw this at my back door, LOL. You might want to click on the photo to see them better. OR NOT!
You may already know that magpies make an awesome warble sound, and three of four times a day during some months.. they would come up to the back door like this (just a few feet from the flyscreen door)and all burst into song. It’s beautiful and it sounds like they’re inside the house. As a matter of fact,.. we have to keep the door closed because we have had them wander on in. They even tap on the windows,.or the flyscreen door if I’m not quick enough to come feed them and their babies. A few weeks ago, I was throwing their food onto the trampoline (so the dog doesn’t eat it) and magpies came running…. yes running (a couple flew in,.. but most of them ran) in from the nature reserve..from every direction and squeezed through the bars in the fence you can see back there. It was amazing and a bit freaky.. these birds are quite large and do swoop during breeding season… but they leave us alone I guess because we have been feeding their babies every year for about 10 years. Even so,.. I admit I got a wave of panic when that happened…like they were all coming to attack me,lol. ‘The Birds’ again probably… but also I had been attacked lots of times by magpies when I was young and I know how fierce they can be. We have two adult magpies that will allow us to hand feed them, and I suspect these two are the same ones that come back year after year with new babies. Perhaps the others are babies from past years,.I don’t know…they all look so much alike wwhaahahahaahaha. But I can recognise two of them easily. Anyhoo…. you’re probably wondering why I titled this post ‘Penguin Poop’. Well one day… I had just fed the magpies and they were still enjoying their snack as I wandered back inside,..a few minutes later,..my 12yr old daughter raced inside, all excited, grabbed her camera and ran outside again. She lined the camera up on the edge of the trampoline and I thought….’nice..she’ll get us some lovely close-up shots of the magpies’. I yelled out to her, asking if she was getting nice close-up shots of the magpies and she yelled back,… "No I’m taking photos of a PENGUIN!!!!" Here is her Penguin. Cute isn’t it? You might want to click on this photo to enlarge it and see more detail,. erm …or perhaps NOT. Do you think I need to be worried about my daughter? She thought this was fantastic…way better than close-ups of magpies whaahaahahahaha. Needless to say…. feeding the magpies comes at a poopy price which requires regular cleaning up to remove penguins,.. and other not-so cute ‘gifts’. A couple of Gizbys and three focals. I haven’t had a chance to even look at these beads myself yet, so at this stage I don’t know whether they will be going to shop or auction,… and I can’t even give you a bit of a description. These beads are still soaking in water waiting to be removed from their mandrels. It will probably be a week before I get time to list these I think. Aaaaaaaand… I have just finished another Saturday session at the torch. I made a batch of great focals,.. so stay tuned to see my 18 April beads. I can’t wait to open the kiln in the morning!! So exciting!!! Well,. here are the quick snapshots of Tuesday’s beads,…hot out of the kiln. Well not really,..they be cool Here are two focal beads with different degrees of weirdnessnessness. The focal bead on the left is kind of interesting the way there is a depth in the white/pinkish area. The focal bead on the right too is quite interesting with the mottled grey and black through it. The Gizby on the right is purple/grey and has very nice pattern on its body. And since this session at the torch was primarily aimed at cooking up stock for my ebay shop.. they are all heading there sometime this week,…. although I might need purple gizby to go to auction for me.. not sure yet. A couple of lentils…erm what can I say about them?? They’re different :} and a Gizby with pyjamas on,lol. The lentils will go in the shop and not sure about red gizby yet. Pendants,.. probably won’t be listed anywhere for a few weeks and,.. auction or shop? I haven’t decided. No torchin’ tomorrow,.. I’ve just got too much admin to do which cannot wait another day…whaaaaaaaaaaaah! Two of these will be going into my ebay store with Buy it Now and the middle one to auction. I hope to get the store beads up in the next day or two, but the flower bead..hmm.. it might make it to the next auctions starting after 5pm SAT 18 April PDT / 10am SUN 19 April AEST.. if not..then the following auctions same times.
The first one (is a heart with hearts inside,..dark photo hard to see in this quick snapshot) will possibly make it to auction the following week. The other bead and gizby there I think will be going into my ebay store. I’m currently making beads that will be suitable for stocking up my ebay store, so that I can offer a nice and ‘unusual’ selection of beads, but try as I might to get stock up… people are buying them too fast for me to get ahead,lol. STOP it I tell you! STOP! :} A couple more Gizbys were born on this day,.. and the bead on the right is a bit delish!
