Week 6

Third try at this style. Is this Pizzaz enough,..or just plain Spaaazz?
I managed to move further away from what I am trying to achieve,..lost my focus and it took on a life of it’s own, you can probably see that, lol. It took forever to do,.and I’m very unhappy with the makeshift approach I took. I learned quite a bit from doing this,..despite it not turning out how I would have liked, so at least that goal was achieved again this week.

Week 5

Here is my second attempt at this Organic Sculpture ;} style of work. I am in my element let me tell you. This is perfect for me. I love everything about working this way. I’m in such a mess with it during the process,..and thinking thinking all the time. I didn’t count them,..but at one stage it looked like I had thirty wires sticking out all over the place. Thank goodness for needing to wear glasses for close work I say,..otherwise I’d be blind right now. My poor dog got a poke in the eye though :[ . I’m just playing around with copper and brass,.figuring stuff out as I go alone. I noticed when I viewed the pic, that the work itself is a bit untidy,..and realised I never paid any attention to ensure the woven wires were laying neatly, probably because I was so absorbed in the actual structure process itself. I’ll try to pay attention to detail in my next piece. It’s funny how when you find your ‘happy place’ with jewelry making,..the ideas just keep flowing. I have had such a dry spell for so long, no ideas came to mind,..let alone flowed,.. and for a while, it even seemed like I’d never make jewelry again. Can’t wait til next week now,..I might even try to draw up a design on paper first for that one.

Week 4

I had a major break through this week, and I have finally found my muse. I’ll be honest,..as much as I have enjoyed making jewelry in the past, I have always been creatively frustrated (feeling of being quite stifled if you like) with jewelry making because of my once perceived limitations of wire. I wanted to be able to ‘paint’ with wire for want of a better term. I wanted to be able to work more freely,.not restrained with rules, particular techniques or measurements. And I wanted to be able to create mixes and blends of colour and textures. This was the reason I left jewelry making to pursue watercolour painting. Watercolour painting seemed to be the only (preferred)medium that could give me this area of expression and creativity which I always craved and felt was missing when using wire as the medium,……until now.

You’ll recognise that Isaac’s work has a strong influence. For me,..Isaac has pushed the boundaries of my perceived wire limitations,..and when I first viewed his work,.I was very excited to realise that the creative expression I craved and missed when working with wire,.can indeed be fullfilled, and jewelry making is once again an exciting prospect for me.

This is my first attempt at this more free expression style of work and although it was a bit of a struggle at times through the process,..I enjoyed working this way immensely, and I’m very pleased with the result. I’m very excited as you can tell and cannot wait to do another one.

It is made using copper and brass practice wire.

Week 3

Week 3
Again this week,.I completely forgot about using the theme for inspiration. I wish I had thought of it prior to making this piece because I was actually looking forward to doing this theme and could have used an idea. I sat for at least 30mins at my workbench today struggling to think of what to make.

Anyhoo,..here’s my piece, a butterscotch cab pendant.
I purchased the gorgeous cab from Micki a while back. I couldn’t make upmy mind what colour metal to use so I used both SS & GF, hard to see in the photo,..but very effective result. I popped it onto my blecher chain, but I think it actually looks better on the black cord,..or perhaps a very plain chain.

I have been practicing doing closeups with my camera, and have managed to get some really crisp closeps of flowers so far, however closeups of my jewelry seem to be so much harder to get good results,.guess it’s all the reflections on metal or something. Anyway,.I’ll keep playing with it,..very fun though.

Week 2

Week 2
Well this week I decided to play around with an idea I had, for plaiting a ring. There are two plaited swirls under the surface wires of the ring, but hard to see in the pic,..or in real life come to think of it.
I was excited at the start of making this, and thought ‘yes!, this is fun’,..but soon realised something was drastically wrong! Maybe I should read the tag on the wire next time *sigh*, Hard! OMG!!! . I would like to try something similar but next time using half hard or soft wire, think it might be a little easier :[ . Excuse the arty photo btw, I am messing around with my new toy, and I sacrificed zoom to ring,… for wow! how cool!, look at that spider there, lol. Oh and the theme,..I like to do the themes if I can, but I completely forgot about theme,..forgot to even look what it was, such was my state of mind when I did this piece. :P

By popular demand,.eh hemm,..ta darrrr..close ups…

Week 2 -closeups

Week 1

Week 1
Simple pieces from me,..my personal challenge is ’stickability’.
I made this dangle/pendant with symbolic meaning,..each bead represents an overlaying trait/personality of each of my children. Top bead (the ‘Head’), represents my 12yrDD, very intelligent, very wise. Middle bead (the ‘Heart’) represents my 8yrDD, incredibly caring and thoughtful, and the bottom bead (the ‘Body’) represents my 10yrDS, athletic and strong.
There are times when I’m overwhelmed by the preasures of the raising children and everything that goes with it, however there isn’t a day that goes by, where I don’t Count my Blessings for the priviledge of being my children’s mother. :)
