That’s right,.. just two weeks left of the Christmas School Holidays. The kids have been off school since early December. My middle school girl and commencing Senior School boy, both go back on Feb 4 and my Senior School girl goes back on the Feb 5.
I love these holidays the best because they are in the summer and are nice and lonnnnnnng. After a hectic school year,.. the kids and I are pretty frazzled and these holidays usually cannot come fast enough. It is sad to see these holidays coming to an end.
We enjoyed a fantastic Christmas, a very different and more relaxed one for me as I opted out of the Santa role now and all presents were under the tree several days prior the Christmas Day,.. which meant I had more than a few hours sleep on Christmas Eve (first time in about 14years) and was not a walking zombie during the day. I even put a present opening time on the day,lol so that other relatives could join us mid morning. So nice to wake refreshed, have shower and coffee in hand while opening presents….how civilised!!
We enjoyed a family holiday up in Port Macquarie. Getting together with hubby’s adult daughter (our kid’s older sister) and her boyfriend and her mum. It was absolutely wonderful… 5 whole days of chilling out at the beach, eating lots of fresh fruit and salad, catching up with everyone, dining out, and having a few drinks. This was the first holiday (longer than two days away) that we have had since the kids were very little,.. they don’t even remember the last holiday
. So it was a treat for all of us to get away that long,..and we hope to do it again in 2009.
So, the next two weeks I expect will be much like the rest of the holidays while we have been at home,.. lots of sleepovers for the kids,.. they have discovered that we are more willing parents to have many friends sleepover at the same time, lol. We were just saying the other night that we are proud of our children for the friends they have chosen,.. they all have many friends and all of their friends talk to/hangout/msn/bebo/facebook our other children despite them being in different years at school… they are all great friends. I am constantly amazed to watch the interaction between the friends of one child… get along and chat and have fun with the other two as well. That was so NOT how it was like in my day. It’s like one big get-together no matter whose friends are here,.. they all congregate together, watch movies, hang out in a room together laughing and chatting. It’s fantastic having them all here…. and tiring at the same time, lol.
I am thinking.. it is probably because of the likes of Bebo, Myspace and Facebook that they have all gotten to know each other like ‘besties’ . It is not unusual for my youngest DD to be playing a game with my oldest DD’s BF on Bebo in one room while oldest DD is chatting to him on MSN in another room,lol.. or my DS chatting to my oldest DDs friends on MSN and yelling out messages from them to DD… it’s a crazy house of technology here let me tell ya.
So two weeks left.. of chilling out.. then the running around (school , sports, dancing, social events) starts all over again for another year….whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
