Week 5

Here is my second attempt at this Organic Sculpture ;} style of work. I am in my element let me tell you. This is perfect for me. I love everything about working this way. I’m in such a mess with it during the process,..and thinking thinking all the time. I didn’t count them,..but at one stage it looked like I had thirty wires sticking out all over the place. Thank goodness for needing to wear glasses for close work I say,..otherwise I’d be blind right now. My poor dog got a poke in the eye though :[ . I’m just playing around with copper and brass,.figuring stuff out as I go alone. I noticed when I viewed the pic, that the work itself is a bit untidy,..and realised I never paid any attention to ensure the woven wires were laying neatly, probably because I was so absorbed in the actual structure process itself. I’ll try to pay attention to detail in my next piece. It’s funny how when you find your ‘happy place’ with jewelry making,..the ideas just keep flowing. I have had such a dry spell for so long, no ideas came to mind,..let alone flowed,.. and for a while, it even seemed like I’d never make jewelry again. Can’t wait til next week now,..I might even try to draw up a design on paper first for that one.

Well, I submitted a comment, wonder were it went. I like that your first two pieces so far really show off the majority of the stone/pearls, unlike some types of work which tend to overwhelm them with too much wire. Very interesting.

Re the pendants,..I prefer to wear pendants that have very little to no wire showing, lol. So these Organic Sculpture style pieces are the exact contrast to my personal wearing preference, lol. However,..I can make jewelry for all tastes hee hee,…. In these pieces I am getting great satisfaction more from going wild with it, I suppose, lol and just making it up as I go,..no measuring, no rules. Yes these pieces will have more and more wire as I become more confident, but the idea behind this is to make the Silver and GF an integral part of the piece,.giving it as much importance if you like as the stones themselves. (I should probably mention this in my comment with next week’s piece, so folk might understand better as to what I’m trying to achieve). In most pendant designs, and if you think about it, much of our wire work including rings and bracelets, the ‘wire’ in most (but certainly not all) cases takes second place to the beads/stones we are trying to show off. The wire is usually just what holds these pretties in place, harnesses the stones,..the structure, the foundation. I want the wire to be so pretty/interesting in it’s own right, that it can stand up and take a bow, right beside the beads/stones.

Folk(probably most)will no doubt, not like so much wire in the pieces,.but that’s ok too,..some folk will love it,…hopefully enough to buy a piece one day, lol.

I, too, thought Isaac’s work was amazing. But I love how you’ve used different colored wires when working in this style. I wonder - how hard would it be to do something like this as a pin? Some of these pieces could grow to large, beautiful collections of stones & wire … might be great for a lapel pin on a winter coat. Just a thought/suggestion.
